Step 0: Acquiring parts, what you’ll need #

For each of the following steps a number of parts, tools and consumables are needed. More detailed breakdowns are provided for each relevant section. Here’s the overview and where to get things:

• The AutCorder PCB:
  • Prefabricated Circuit boards (with SMD stencil). Home-fabrication will be difficult as the boards are four-layer. Suggested supplier: JLCPCB.
  • Circuit board components. Full BOM in the below section. Suggested supplier: All components are more or less available from Digi-key.
  • Tools and consumables for SMD and regular soldering. A hot plate is sufficient for reflowing, as one side is hand solder-able without great trouble.
• 3D printed shell:
  • An FDM 3D printer. Most will do.
  • PLA or PETG filament. Most will do.
  • Post-processing materials:
    • Sandpaper.
    • Spray paint (In your preferred color) and primer.
  • M3 heat-set inserts and bolts for assembly.
• Assembly:
  • Tools for additional soldering.
  • Additional components:
    • Shutter button, vibration motor or piezo buzzer. Suggested source: Your previously chosen electronics supplier, e.g. Digi-key or Aliexpress.
    • Camera module. Suggested source: AliExpress or similar import business. See step 3.
    • SD card, Battery. Suggested source: Local electronics retailer, as international shipping of Li-Po batteries can be dodgy.
    • Note that the specific battery and shutter button used depends on the shell used.
  • For carrying about: Key-ring, Lanyard or similar. Suggested source: Your local small-parts bin or junk-drawer.
